About Us
What MauiWowee is
MauiWowee is a travel guide to Maui, Hawaii. It exists to answer the questions people ask once they start planning a trip to the Valley Isle: which beach is best for snorkeling, how long the Road to Hana really takes, whether to stay in Kihei or Kaanapali, what to eat after you land, and when to visit if you want whales, calm water or smaller crowds.
Everything here is written in plain English for travelers, with one goal: that you arrive prepared rather than overwhelmed. We don't sell tours or take bookings. The site is a library of guides, and it keeps growing: a new article is added every day, and there are already more than three hundred of them.
How the guide is organized
The library is divided into eight guides, each with its own set of topics, so you can jump straight to the part of the trip you are working on:
- Maui Beaches by Region covers the coastline from Kapalua and Kaanapali in the west to Kihei, Wailea, the north shore and Hana, with the best spots for snorkeling, sunsets, families and quiet corners.
- Surfing and Surf Culture explains where to surf by season, how to learn, what big-wave Peahi (Jaws) is all about, and the gear, slang and etiquette that come with the sport.
- Ocean Adventures and Water Sports looks at Molokini, whale watching, diving, boat tours, kayaking, fishing and how to enjoy the reef responsibly.
- Haleakala, Hiking and Maui Nature is about the summit crater, the waterfalls and trails of the Road to Hana, rainforests, native plants and wildlife.
- Maui Towns, Regions and Scenic Drives describes what each part of the island is like and how to drive between them.
- Maui Food, Drink and Nightlife goes from plate lunches, poke and shave ice to craft cocktails, luaus and the restaurants worth planning around.
- Where to Stay on Maui compares resorts, condos and retreats region by region, with ideas for families, couples and different budgets.
- Maui Trip Planning, Culture and History covers when to go, getting there and getting around, itineraries, money-saving tips, Hawaiian culture, history and respectful travel.
You can see every guide and every topic at a glance on the topics page, read the newest articles first on All Articles, or use the search box to find something specific.
Who it's for
First-time visitors choosing between regions. Returning travelers looking for a quieter beach, a different trail or a restaurant they have not tried. Families who need to know which beaches are calm enough for kids, couples planning something romantic, surfers and divers checking the seasons, and anyone curious about the island's history and culture before they arrive. Whatever your plans, the aim is the same: to help you spend less time researching and more time on the beach, on the trail or at the table.
What you will find on the site
Besides the articles, the home page carries a short FAQ with quick answers to questions travelers ask most often (reload the page for a fresh set), and a selection of Maui videos for the times when a few minutes of footage says more than a page of directions. Every article shows how recently it was published, so you can tell at a glance what is new. Each guide and topic page lists its articles newest first.
Visiting with respect
Maui is a home before it is a destination. The guide includes articles on Hawaiian culture and traditions, on sustainable and respectful travel, and on Lahaina's recovery and how to visit respectfully, because how you travel matters as much as where you go.
A note on accuracy
Travel details change: opening hours, reservation rules, trail closures, ocean conditions and prices. Treat every article as a starting point and confirm current information with the official source, such as the national or state park, the operator or the property, before you go. Our disclaimer has more on how to use the guide.
